Brother MFC-L2750DW XL Review

The Brother MFC-L2750DW printer offers good value for money. The XL model was put to the test, which costs $400. The XL model comes with two toner cartridges that can print a total of 7,500 pages, despite being the most costly of the home/small-office monochrome laser printers we've reviewed.

A rapid automatic document feeder, duplex printing and copying, color scanning, faxing, and integration with cloud apps like OneNote are all included in the Brother MFC-L2750DW XL.

The Brother MFC-L2750DW XL can print up to 15,000 pages per month, which is more than our Editor's Choice, the Canon ImageClass MF217w, which can only print 8,000 pages per month. Overall, our Brother MFC-L2750DW XL review indicates that it is not just one of the best all-in-one printers, but also the best laser printer we've tested. Design

The 2.7-inch color touch screen isn't very appealing, but it does the job. Although you can't slide like on a smartphone screen, you can rapidly go to your preferred destination by tapping the simulated up/down on-screen menu buttons.

Lift the 50-sheet ADF on top of the printer to reveal the scanner plate. When loading a paper to scan, you don't need to support the lid because it's held in place at a 45-degree angle. A foldout catch is located beneath the ADF to prevent pages from slipping off the device.

The output tray, which is placed underneath the scanner glass, is a recessed container in the body with a hinged catch at the front. Faxing is made simple with a 10-key pad for entering fax numbers.

The gadget features a paper drawer on the bottom that can hold up to 250 sheets of paper. There's a second input slot above that drawer, concealed behind a fold-down cover, for specialist media; it can hold up to 10 envelopes, for example. The first time you open the paper drawer, a message appears on the screen asking whether you want to alter the paper size. The printer will ask if you want to re-ask the question regardless of whether you respond "No." When you type "No," the alert is turned off, which is a good thing because the message may grow annoying if you never change the paper size.

The body is 16.1 x 15.7 x 12.5 inches and weighs 26.5 pounds. It has the same footprint as a normal home multifunction printer, but it stands nearly twice as tall. Make sure you have enough vertical space to lift the scanner cover.

Print Speed

The MFC-L2750DW prints swiftly, faster than any other small office all-in-one laser printer we've tested. Our five-page text document was created in 16.2 seconds, resulting in a page rate of 18.5 per minute. This is a significant improvement above the 14.4 ppm category average. Our Editors' Choice, the Canon ImageClass MF217w, was almost as speedy, printing the paper in 18.9 seconds.

The laser all-in-one also obtained the fastest speed in the small office category to date on our combined text and graphics project. Brother's printer was nearly twice as fast as the industry standard. The Brother produced six pages in 20.3 seconds, or 17.8 pages per minute, which was far faster than the industry average of 36.7 seconds, or 9.8 pages per minute. On the other hand, the Canon ImageClass MF217w generated the paper at a rate of 12.2 ppm.

The MFC-L2750DW takes longer than the average printer to print a grayscale letter-size image on regular paper. The printer took 17.2 seconds to complete the work, compared to 16.4 seconds on average. The Canon MF217w was far quicker, with a time of 11.1 seconds, the fastest to date.

The MFC-L2750DW is a fast-printing duplex printer. It could print two-sided text sheets at 13.2 ppm and two-sided mixed graphics and text documents at 11 pages per minute.

Copy and Scanning Speed

When it comes to copying, the MFC-L2750DW surpassed the Canon model, taking approximately 2 seconds less than the average of 10.3 seconds. This printer copied a text page in 8.4 seconds, compared to 8.7 seconds for the Canon. Using the automatic document feeder, the Brother reproduced our five-page text document in 19.3 seconds (15.5 ppm), whereas the Canon took 22.3 seconds (13.4 ppm).

Because of its rapid ADF and the fact that both sides of two-sided documents are scanned in one pass, the MFC-L2750DW keeps up with the competition when it comes to making two-sided copies. (Due to the lack of a duplexer, the Canon MF217w is unable to print two-sided documents or make automatic two-sided copies of documents fed into the document feeder.) The Brother copied a 10-page text document in 57.1 seconds or 10.5 ppm.

In addition to color scanning, the Brother all-in-one produced a 300-dpi PDF in 8.4 seconds. This was significantly quicker than the national average of 10.4 seconds. The Canon MF217w was even faster, with a scan time of 6.7 seconds, the quickest in this category.

The color scanning to JPEG format on the MFC-single L2750DW took longer than normal. An 8-by-10-inch photograph at 600 dpi took 38.4 seconds to scan, compared to 36.9 seconds on average. The Canon MF217w, on the other hand, was far faster, taking just 28 seconds to complete.

Print Quality

Text documents with black, crisp letterforms around the edges were created by the MFC-L2750DW. The graphics were enticing, but the entire tone was a little depressing. As a result, nuanced transitions in the midtones were maintained but specific details in shadow regions were lost. This was notably obvious in photo-reproductions of faces, where the transitions gave them a three-dimensional appearance, making them more attractive. On the other hand, the Canon MF217w printed the same sheets lighter overall, with improved shadow detail, but faces seemed flat owing to washed-out midtone transitions.

Scans of papers were clear, and PDF versions of text forms were sharp. When scanned to JPEG format at 600 dpi, photographs looked great, with true colors and excellent details, especially in dark areas.

Toner cost and yield

Printing costs are cheaper with the Brother MFC-L2750DW than they are with comparable printers. With a standard toner cartridge guaranteed to last 1,200 pages, this Brother prints for 3.75 cents per page, compared to an average of 4.1 cents per page for the laser multifunction printers we've evaluated. You may lower the cost to 2.7 cents per page with the $80 high-capacity cartridge (rated at 3,000 pages) or the $120 super-high-capacity cartridge (rated at 4,500 pages).

The toner drum is $105 and is good for 12,000 pages, thus it adds around 0.9 cents to the per-page cost.

Setup and Software

Setting up the MFC-L2750DW was straightforward once I followed the quick-setup guide. After removing the packaging tape, I installed the drum/toner component, which simply slides into the front of the device.

I followed the directions on the software installation DVD-ROM. You may alternatively use the quick-setup guide, which includes a link to the program's download. The all-in-one contains iPrint&Scan, which is printing and scanning software, in addition to drivers. At the end of the installation, you can install PaperPort, a scanning and document management program, if you choose.

I was able to effortlessly connect this Brother printer to my wireless network using the WPS method. I followed the touch screen menu prompts on the printer with ease, then pressed the WPS button on my wifi router. For use with wireless devices, the MFC-L2750DW supports AirPrint, Wi-Fi Direct, and Google Cloud Print. To utilize Brother's iPrint&Scan app on Android, first, download the Appareils Print Service app.

Verdict

Among the many beneficial features of the Brother MFC-L2750DW XL multifunction printer are a fast ADF, speedy duplex printing and copying, fax capabilities, and a second paper tray. The MFC-L2750DW XL printed two-sided pages quicker than some models and has the fastest speeds for text and mixed text/graphics files to date. It also generates high-quality photos in general. Although the price may look high at first, keep in mind that it includes two toner cartridges with a combined print capacity of 7,500 pages. When utilizing the MFC-L2750DW XL's high-capacity toner cartridge, the cost per page is just 2.7 cents, which is the lowest we've observed in this category. That's a tough one to top.
